Charles Stevenson, MD, joined the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in July 2010. Prior to completing his fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, he received his neurosurgical training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. During that time, he also completed a two-year fellowship in neurosurgical oncology. He received his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2001.

Dr. Stevenson’s specialized surgical training and research background in neuro-oncology make him uniquely qualified to serve as the surgical director of the Brain Tumor Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The Brain Tumor Center provides advanced, comprehensive care for children, adolescents and young adults with tumors of the brain and spine. Patients come to the Brain Tumor Center from around the world, some with newly diagnosed tumors, and others seeking care for recurrent or treatment-resistant tumors. Dr. Stevenson is assisted in these efforts by leading-edge technology such as the operating room BrainSUITE™, which creates precise three-dimensional maps of the brain and allows for intraoperative MRI imaging to more safely remove particularly complex and deep-seated tumors. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center was the first pediatric hospital in the world to offer this technology.

In addition, Dr. Stevenson brings expertise and years of experience in surgical treatments for spasticity in patients with cerebral palsy, brain injury, and spinal cord injury. These surgical procedures include selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) as well as implantation of baclofen pumps. He is a member of a multidisciplinary team of specialists that includes neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation and physical and occupational therapies that offers comprehensive care for children with spasticity in the Surgical Spasticity Clinic at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Stevenson also serves as a member of the Cincinnati Fetal Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Along with his colleagues in the Cincinnati Fetal Center, he helped create the fetal myelomeningocele surgery program at here in 2011 following conclusion of the national MOMS trial. The fetal myelomeningocele surgery program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is currently one of the only programs in the world to offer less invasive, fetoscopic surgery in which the child’s myelomeningocele defect is repaired through only 2-3 very small incisions in the uterus.

Dr. Stevenson is a member of the prestigious American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons, and he is a member of the neurosurgical advisory committee of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium. He was board certified in neurological surgery in 2013 by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and in pediatric neurosurgery in 2014 by the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
